Fourth grade is an exhilarating year of discovery! Our students transition from learning foundational skills to applying them in sophisticated ways. This year is all about depth—diving deeper into literature, tackling complex mathematical operations, and exploring the rich history of our state and world.

The 4th-grade curriculum is designed to challenge students to become "experts" in their favorite subjects.

  • Literacy: Students move beyond basic plots to analyze themes, metaphors, and points of view. We explore various genres, including historical fiction, poetry, and informational texts. Writing becomes more formal as we master multi-paragraph essays, research reports, and creative narratives.

  • Mathematics: Things get exciting in math! We master long division, multi-digit multiplication, and delve deep into fractions and decimals (comparing, adding, and subtracting). Students also begin to explore the basics of geometry, including angles and symmetry.

  • Science: We focus on systems and energy. Students learn about the transfer of energy (electricity and circuits), the rock cycle and fossils, and how the internal and external structures of plants and animals support survival.

  • Social Studies: 4th grade is often the year of State History. We learn about the geography, economy, and historical figures that shaped our state, alongside the study of early explorers and the growth of our nation.
