Welcome to Discovery: Coding, Art, and Music!
The Discovery program is where imagination meets innovation! In this unique rotation, students from Kindergarten through 5th Grade step outside the traditional classroom to explore the world through three distinct lenses: Coding & Technology, Visual Arts, and Musical Expression.
Our mission is to foster "whole-brain" thinking—combining the logic of a programmer with the soul of an artist and the rhythm of a musician.
đź’» Coding & Computational Thinking
We teach students that technology isn’t just something we consume—it’s something we create.
Kindergarten–2nd Grade: We start with "unplugged" coding (learning logic through games) and progress to visual block-based programming. Students learn to give directions, sequence events, and solve puzzles.
3rd–5th Grade: Students dive deeper into game design and animation. We focus on "debugging" (problem-solving) and using code to create interactive stories, digital art, and even simple robotics.
🎨 Visual Arts & Creativity
In the art studio, there are no mistakes—only "happy accidents."
Kindergarten–2nd Grade: Focus is on the "Elements of Art." We explore primary colors, different textures, and basic shapes using paint, clay, and mixed media.
3rd–5th Grade: Students begin exploring art history and more technical skills, such as 3D perspective, color theory, and cultural art traditions from around the world. We encourage students to find their unique "artistic voice."
🎵 Music & Movement
Music is the universal language of our school.
Kindergarten–2nd Grade: It’s all about rhythm and joy! Students learn to keep a beat, identify high and low pitches, and use their voices and simple percussion instruments (like shakers and drums) to make music together.
3rd–5th Grade: We move into music theory and performance. Students learn to read basic notation, explore different genres of music, and may begin learning instruments like the recorder or ukulele to understand melody and harmony.
