In Physical Education, our goal is to inspire every student to find joy in movement. We focus on building the physical competence, confidence, and motivation necessary for a lifetime of health and physical activity. Whether we are learning to tie our sneakers or mastering a complex team strategy, the gym is a place of energy, effort, and encouragement.

What We Learn

Our curriculum is designed to meet students where they are developmentally, moving from basic movement to specialized sports skills.

  • Kindergarten–2nd Grade: The Foundations of Movement At this age, we focus on "Locomotor Skills." Students learn the difference between hopping, skipping, galloping, and sliding. We work on hand-eye coordination through tossing and catching, and we introduce the concept of "personal space" (our "bubbles") to ensure safety during play.

  • 3rd–5th Grade: Skill Application & Strategy As students grow, we transition into "Sport-Related Skills." We learn the fundamentals of basketball, soccer, volleyball, and track and field. Students begin to understand game strategies, the importance of offensive and defensive positioning, and how to work effectively as a cohesive team.

The Three Pillars of PE

We believe a well-rounded athlete is built on three main ideas:

  1. Physical Fitness: We learn about the heart and muscles! Students participate in activities that improve cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and strength.

  2. Sportsmanship: The gym is a laboratory for character. We emphasize playing fair, following rules, winning with humility, and losing with grace.

  3. Safety & Body Awareness: Students learn how to move safely in a crowded space, how to use equipment properly, and the importance of hydration and warm-ups.
